Protecting our Pollinators

Thursday 10 October • 5.30 – 7.00pm

Peter Smith talks about the decline in our pollinators, what is being done to prevent it and what we, as individuals, can do to help.

We are living through what has been described as an insect apocalypse with the numbers of insects – including the pollinators on which we depend for 75% of everything we eat – plummeting.

Globally we’ve already lost up to half our insects and it’s estimated that at the current rate of decline we will have lost them all within 50 years.

And Pollinators doesn’t just mean honeybees – bumblebees, solitary bees, wasps, moths and butterflies (2024 was the WORST year ever for our butterflies) all play vital roles.

We look at the causes of this decline, what is being done to help and what we as individuals can do.
