Eco Representatives help with community planting
8th January 2026

The Eco Representatives from St. Pauls School were very lucky to be invited by Jacqui Marsden The Project Lead of the War Memorial gardens renewal 2025 on Monday 16 June to plant Poppy seeds.
On the day we had 38 children representing the school. We used the lunchtime to walk down to the Dorking War Memorial. We talked about our reason for being there and the children learnt the importance of the Memorial.
Jacqui had already planted seed pots into the ground and after showing the children the poppy seeds and explaining why the Poppy seeds were being used, each child was able to sow the seeds, cover the seeds and water the pot.
Hopefully the children will now be able to see the Poppies grow and talk to others about the War Memorial.
We hope to be able to go back later in the year to help Jacqui plant bulbs for the Spring.
The children loved the experience, asked lots of questions and learnt about the relevance and importance of the Dorking War Memorial.
